Focusing a disproportionate amount of our resources on strictly academics, we do a disservice to those children with other talents.
Each child has unique talents. Some love to read; some love to draw; some love music; some enjoy working with numbers; some like taking things apart and putting them back together; some like creating things with their hands. If we only support academic success, we're telling those children with other gifts that their talents are not valued. We also risk the danger of them bailing out of an educational system that doesn't interest them or meet their needs for development. Vocational arts, fine arts, manual arts, must all be supported. Let's concentrate on providing what ALL students need in order to be successful in life.
