As your Vice-Mayor, I have set a course for attracting new high-paying high tech jobs to Fremont while retaining jobs, particularly in all five of our historic Districts.FOCUS ON IMPLEMENTATION OF DOWNTOWN PLAN FOR A THRIVING CIVIC CENTER As Mayor, I will focus on implementing the Downtown Plan + creating a "civic center" and the heart of the city with more retail, nightlife, and new businesses. This can be achieved by connecting Capitol Avenue to Fremont Boulevard and creating a pedestrian-friendly, walkable retail and civic center that will define a sense of place. As Mayor, I will advocate expanding our Downtown from the Fremont BART Station to the Hub. After NUMMI sold its property surrounding the TESLA factory to Union Pacific, I led discussions on the Council concerning studies funded by a federal grant in a study area known as Warm Springs/South Fremont. This study encompasses the future location of Warm Springs and the TESLA factory in an area that is twice the size of San Francisco's Financial District. I later directed City staff to hire a national panel of experts to analyze the highest and best use of this Warm Springs/South Area to bring high-tech, green tech jobs and new retail opportunities. While these studies were underway, I headed a mission to Union Pacific's corporate headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. UP wanted to hold onto their property for a railway. I had a different idea. I showed them our studies and shared my excitement with the great potential for this area bounded by Highways 880 and 680. |
