A California native, Darryl Moore graduated with honors from UC Santa Cruz and earned a Master's degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. He now works as a senior management analyst at the Oakland Housing Authority. In 2000, Darryl was elected to the Peralta Community College Board of Trustees, becoming the first openly gay African-American elected to office in the East Bay. In 2004, Darryl was elected to his first term on the Berkeley City Council representing District 2. He was re-elected in 2008 and currently represents the Council on the Berkeley Public Library Board of Trustees. Darryl serves as the Chair of the National Black Justice Coalition, America's only nationwide civil rights organization dedicated to empowering Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. He has also served on the boards of the West Berkeley Foundation, the Berkeley Public Library Foundation, the YMCA, Berkeley Youth Alternatives, and K to College, and recently joined the board of the AIDS Project of the East Bay. |
