I am deeply committed to involving people in the decisions that affect their lives. As such, I developed the first Kinship Navigator Program in California so that Grandparents, youth, and other relatives could connect with their peers to support safe and stable families. I developed client advisory boards in multiple organizations to ensure that grassroots voices were involved in planning and decision making. My long history in non-profit services has honed my skills in effective and efficient budgeting. I am well aware of the challenges that face our district and I have the skills, commitment, and strength to lead us into an era of stability, growth, and positive recognition. With nearly 20 years of service in Hayward, my work with diverse families, and my ability to build partnerships, I can increase achievement in our schools and accountability in our school district. Currently serving as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Hayward, I received my master's in Healthcare Administration from CSU East Bay in 2006, and currently manage the Community Action Network (Hayward CAN) - an effort to end homelessness in Hayward. I developed internship and training programs in collaboration with 4 healthcare/social service agencies and 8 universities and currently co-chair the South Hayward Neighborhood Collaborative + a founding partner in the Promise Neighborhoods Initiative.I also founded the Alameda County Tools 4 School Collaborative, which provided 11,000 backpacks with school supplies for students in need. |
