Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski was elected on November 2, 2010 and represents the 20th Assembly District in the California State Legislature. The district includes Fremont, Union City, Newark, Milpitas, and a portion of San Jose, Hayward, Pleasanton, Castro Valley, and Sunol. He has hit the ground running in Sacramento, focusing on job creation, clean technologies, protecting our environment and reducing unnecessary regulations. Mr. Wieckowski serves as chair of the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee and Co-Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on California's Clean Energy Economy. He is also a member of the Assembly Insurance, Judiciary and Public Employees, Retirement and Social Security committees, as well as Select Committees on Biotechnology, High Technology, Job Creation for the New Economy, and Emergency Management. In his first year of office, Assemblymember Wieckowski passed nine bills through the Legislature, eight of which were signed into law by Governor Brown. Reflecting his collaborative style, most of these bills were approved with strong, bipartisan support. He has launched the Made in California Jobs Initiative to expand California manufacturing, invest in biotechnology research, and provide hiring tax credits for small businesses. As part of this initiative, he is touring companies throughout his district to speak to business leaders and their workers about challenges facing their industries. As a passionate advocate for his community, he has served on numerous boards and commissions. He previously served as Vice Mayor of the City of Fremont. Mr. Wieckowski is a small business owner and a bankruptcy attorney. He has helped hundreds of families and seniors persevere through economic hardship, keep their homes and live with dignity. He received his B.A. from the University of California and his J.D. from Santa Clara University Law School. Assemblymember Wieckowski lives in Fremont with Sue Lemke, and her two sons, Evan and Luke. He is running for re-election to the newly formed 25th Assembly District, which includes Milpitas, Newark, Santa Clara, and portions of Fremont and San Jose. |
