PROTECT STATE'S RIGHTS

By Lisa D. Ringer

Candidate for State Senator; District 9

This information is provided by the candidate
I will vigorously defend California's rights per the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
STATES' RIGHTS
  • The tenth amendment of the U.S. constitution protects states' sovreign rights from federal interference. As a long time activist, I have promoted states' rights. If elected State Senator, I will vigorously defend California businesses and individuals from the federal government's perpetual attempts to dictate every aspect of our lives, including our right to conduct business and spend our money. Libertarians believe that government exists to protect citizens against theft or fraud, and foreign attack, therefore the federal government should limit itself to protecting our shores, the Bill of Rights, and property rights.
  • Obama's election year attacks on California's legal medical cannabis industry is a prime example of the battle lines between federal and states' rights. Many residents of California Senate District 9 are concerned about federal agents' (IRS and federal attorneys') raids and other assaults on Oakland's medical marijuana facilities and Oaksterdam University. Proposition 215 ensured that ailing patients in California would have safe, legal access to medicinal marijuana, a natural herb with beneficial effects that are even recognized by the Veterans' Administration. Furthermore, states are moving towards legalization for recreational purposes under a system similar to alcohol (the tax cannabis like wine movement). If elected, I will combat the federal government's war on cannabis which is an encroachment on states' rights. This is a war waged against peaceful citizens. The drug war is an ineffective waste of tax payer dollars, resulting in wasteful spending on law enforcement, trials, and prisons for no credible reason. Underage use of cannabis should be a matter left to parents, similar to alcohol consumption. Underage possession is a concern for adult supervisors of the underage person. There is no reason for government to get involved.
