Rudy Ramirez's ideas on reforming California's economy through infrastructure. So, you ask, what I can do to stimulate the economy and create jobs? Well, one thing we could do in the short term that would make a difference is invest in infrastructure. We should be able to look across the state and identify important projects that not only will create jobs in the short term, but, also facilitate commerce in the long term while maintaining stable good paying jobs throughout. Producing quality, good paying jobs for the long term is very important. We need to produce jobs that keep people off public services... able-bodied full time workers should not still be dependent on public services. And one last important point is that these large infrastructure projects need to have private investment. Public dollars need to leverage private dollars in order to ensure, to the greatest degree possible, that the business plan for these projects is viable, because these projects must eventually pay for themselves. Large scale public infrastructure, publicly and privately financed will create quality short term and long term jobs that will facilitate commerce and help us be globally competitive. |
