Full Biography for Brian C. Johnson
Candidate for |
Brian currently serves as the Executive Director of the Larchmont Schools, a network of high-performing and racially and socio-economically diverse public schools in Los Angeles and West Hollywood. In times of massive state budget cuts, Brian has worked with parents and teachers to build a new middle school, grow the schools by 100 students, and create 10% more jobs. In the midst of this growth, Brian has led the schools in the Larchmont Schools network to be named among the highest performing schools in Los Angeles by the state department of education. He credits this incredible growth and success during tough economic times to strong fiscal responsibility, a commitment to putting kids first, and actively working with teacher and parent input. Prior to Larchmont, Brian served as the Executive Director of Teach for America in Los Angeles. During his time there, Brian increased revenues by $5 million annually and tripled the size of his team so that Teach for America could bring in over 700 of the nation's top college graduates to serve as public school teachers in Los Angeles. These teachers have made a dramatic impact on the lives of 50,000 students throughout our city. Brian began his career as a first grade teacher with Teach for America in Baton Rouge, LA. In addition to his work expanding effective organizations, Brian is very active in our community. He is a member of the Loyola Marymount University School of Education Board of Visitors, served on the City of Los Angeles Quality & Productivity Commission, and was the Education Chair of the Hollywood Hills West Neighborhood Council. He is a former Trustee of Princeton University. Brian is a graduate of Princeton University, Stanford Law School, and Stanford Business School where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. Brian is running to fight for the opportunities Californians deserve. Just as he does every day, he will lead the fight to ensure that every family has a great public school for their children and that all Californians have jobs they can count on. He will work to make sure our government reflects our California values -- that it is fiscally responsible, it invest in our future, and it protects us when we need it most. |
