Questions & Answers

1. In this time of high unemployment, what are the most important steps that should be taken to improve our nation’s economy?

Restore or create a level playing field that encourages individuals to take Small Business risks. Reduce or eliminate preferences for large multi-state employers. Restore the American Dream.

2. How should the federal budget deficit be addressed, now and into the future? How should budget priorities for defense and domestic programs be adjusted?

The Federal government should fulfill its constitutional duties, and except in time of declared war, should collect revenue to fund its operations. Tax revenue should be a flat tax, without credit or exemptions, other than for charitable gifts of income, to recognized charities that the tax payer does not control.

The flat tax rate should apply to incomes (after charitable gifts) in excess of $100,000 for singles and $200,000 for families.

The Federal government should not engage in unfunded charity activity. Charity should be funded by charities and religious institutions.

The current deficit should be reduced by a percentage of GDP until retired.

3. What are your priorities with respect to our nation’s energy policy? Should there be an emphasis on clean energy and reducing carbon emissions, and/or on reducing our dependence on foreign sources?

I believe the States should be allowed to address these issues locally. I do not think the Federal government has been granted the authority to dictate to citizens what form of energy they may consume. I think citizens should be free to purchase what they are willing to buy. Citizen and State choice, not Federal government controls, should dictate internal consumption. Federal policies on foreign sources should be rational. International trade is not evil, but must be rational.

4. What, if any, changes should be made to federal health care policies or programs?

Most health care issues are personal matters of citizens. The Federal government should not dictate personal affairs. Federal regulations should not prevent citizens from acquiring affordable health care, and illness prevention programs. Citizens and purchasers of health care programs should not be required to purchase any provision they do not choose to purchase. "First Aide" plans should be legal. Contracts for health care should be enforceable on both parties. Purchasers of "First Aide only" plans should receive only First Aide. Insurance plans should not be cancelable when in continuous issuance. Use of health insurance should not impact renewal rates. All employer health care plans should be included in the income statement provided to the employee and government. Income should not be hidden by classifying it as a non income benefit.

5. What, if any, changes should be made to federal rules on campaign financing?

Campaigns have become big business. Citizens have the right to spend their money. If the premise is that excessive spending creates office holders who are obligated to their donors then access to the ballot should be limited, not spending. Candidates spending less than a set amount should have their candidate information printed without charge in voter pamphlets. Candidate committees, that exceed set spending limits in one election cycle, should be prohibited from ballot access in the following election.
