I defend legal definition of marriage as a union of one man and one woman, with appropriate positive incentives such as joint filing tax advantages and spousal social security benefits. Same sex life partners should be free from interference and enjoy benefits of civil unions plus right to adopt. I favor parental notification before an abortion to end a minor child's pregnancy, with judicial bypass in hardship situations.
- Foreign Policy & Military Conflicts
-
Our troops in Afghanistan should protect civilians, not engage in offensive military operations. We should complete training of Afghan replacements by end of 2014 as scheduled. We should not attack Iran militarily, but instead use economic sanctions and support of democracy for the Iranian people as best approach to prevention of Iran's becoming a nuclear power.
- Education & Immigration Policy
-
Illegal immigrants should not pay lower tuition in public colleges and universities than American citizens from other states. Student loan interest should be kept from doubling and stay at 3.4%, by redirecting funds from discretionary funds now under control (as provided by ObamaCare) of the the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Employers must use E-verify to prove that at least 50% of those employed are American citizens. Replace the 50,000 visa lottery.
