Paul Butterfield brings a wide breath of experience to the race for State Senate in District 35. He has served as a teacher for 16 years, teaching in Cudahy, San Pedro, and Wilmington. He has also taught English in Japan. Today, Paul works at Wilmington Middle School where he teaches health and serves as Chapter Chair for the United Teachers of Los Angeles. Previously, Paul served as Dean of Discipline at San Pedro High School, working with students with behavioral problems, establishing intervention programs, and developing behavior contracts to help troubled students change their ways. During his teaching career, Paul has also been a beloved soccer coach, helping students use the sport as a vehicle to higher education. Recently, he was honored by LAUSD Board Member Richard Vladovic for his "tireless dedication and commitment to students and families," recognition directly related to his work with youth athletes. Paul studied political science at Humboldt State University where he was active in student government, working to pay is own way through college. Paul lives in San Pedro with his wife, Allison, and their two children. |
