LEADERSHIP

After 26 years as dean, director and professor at San Diego State University, 8 years on the San Diego County Board of Education, 8 years on the San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees and frequent service as a Judge Pro Tem with San Diego Superior Court, Marty Block understands the key role the State Legislature should play in quality of life issues including education, health care, economic development, public safety and the environment.

As an Assemblymember, Marty Block will provide the leadership to ensure that the 78th Assembly District will be well represented on these important issues.

  • Elected by voters in 2000 and 2004
  • Elected Board President 8 times.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION
  • Elected by voters in 1986 and 1990
  • elected two terms as President of the Board of Education

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

As President of the San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees, Marty Block has been responsible for:

  • Chairing the Board of the 13th largest employer in San Diego County
  • Earning a perfect score from San Diego Taxpayers Association for bond planning, execution and fulfilling promises to voters regarding implementation
  • Approving on a timely basis balanced budgets with ample reserves for 8 years in a row
  • Overseeing a $1.5 billion building program that is proceding on budget and an accelerated schedule
  • Enhancing the Community College District's bond rating to AA+ (Standard and Poor's)
  • Leading the San Diego Community College District to the highest bond rating of any community college district in the State of California
