Michael Allen is bringing teachers and parents together to create great public schools and support higher education.
Michael Allen stood with teachers and education advocates to stop millions of dollars in cuts to local public schools. Michael also introduced legislation to create the Middle Class Scholarship Act, which will help make college tuition and fees more affordable for middle income families.

Michael's legislative work to support our schools includes:

AB 1501: Middle Class Scholarship Act. This program is designer to make college tuition and fees more affordable for middle income families. All students in the CSU and UC systems with family incomes less than $150,000 that do not already have fees covered will receive a Middle Class Scholarship that cuts their costs by two-thirds. The cost of implementing the new Middle Class Scholarship program will be covered by closing a tax loophole that benefits large out-of-state corporations. (sponsor)

AB 130 and AB 131: Dream Act. Promotes education and grants opportunities to more students in the state of California by allowing monies from state scholarships and private scholarships to be available to undocumented California students. (cosponsor)

AB 9: Increases awareness of bullying in school places and adds it to the general safety act of public schools. "Seth's bill" in response to the tragic death/suicide of a young student who was bullied for being LGBT. (cosponsor)

AB 839: School breakfast program. Schools are currently allowed to operate SBP, but not required to do so. Currently, nearly 750,000 public schools in California, which enroll over 54,000 low-income students in California do not offer SBP. (cosponsor)

Signed onto a letter to Governor Brown asking to restore funding for the Home to School Transportation Program. Ultimately, local control was given back to the school districts to determine how to make those cuts instead of mandating they be made through the Home to School Transportation Program.
