Adams Agenda for Change in AmericaBy Susan L. AdamsCandidate for United States Representative; District 2 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Susan Adams outlines the key points of her platformRebuild America. We can put millions of Americans back to work on critical infrastructure projects: roads, bridges, schools, and the new facilities needed to build a greener economy. Susan will fight for real cuts in military spending and make nation-building at home our top objective. And she will work toward energy independence based on clean energy and green jobs. Restore the Middle Class, and our Social Safety Net. Susan will fight for Main Street, not Wall Street. With the massive shifts in wealth and income to the top 1% in recent decades, Susan is committed to the 99% who have endured layoffs, foreclosures, and government cuts in recent years. She will vote to let the Bush tax cuts expire for America's wealthiest and reinvest that money in the middle class and working families. Enact Medicare for All. Susan supports the key improvements in President Obama's Affordable Healthcare Act, such as an end to pre-existing conditions exclusions and requiring insurance companies to spend less of their income on paperwork and more on health care. As the only health care expert in this race, she will not rest until every American has health coverage. Susan believes the best way to achieve full coverage is Medicare for All. Protect our Seniors and Veterans. Susan will fight to preserve Social Security and Medicare by introducing legislation to raise the FICA cap on contributions to Social Security so that those in the higher income brackets will pay their fair share. With a brother who just returned from seven tours of combat duty, she's committed to full funding for veterans services and the VA. Provide New Investments in Education and Job Training. After 5 straight years of state cuts in education funding, Susan pledges to find new federal dollars for K-12, UC and CSU systems, and community colleges. She believes we must be committed, creative and resourceful in building a smart workforce that includes every person who wants to work, with a special focus on displaced workers over 50. Fight for Women's Health and Reproductive Rights. Susan stands squarely for a woman's right to choose, and will fight against any effort to restrict or limit those rights. She will also resist proposals to limit access to contraception and other vital women's health services. Respect our Constitution. From the Patriot Act to warrantless wiretapping of Americans and the detention policies embedded in the new National Defense Authorization Act, Susan rejects the false choice between security and the rule of law. Susan believes that committing our troops to overseas conflicts should always be the last resort and requires an Act of Congress. Ensure Election Integrity. Humboldt County has set a new standard for transparency in election processes, and Susan is committed to bringing those standards to Washington to ensure that every vote is counted and that we can all have confidence in the democratic process. Susan also believes that our campaign finance system needs major revisions, starting with the Super PACs and the unlimited + and secret + corporate money unleashed on our democracy by the conservative Supreme Court's notorious Citizen's United decision. Protect the Precious North Coast. This new congressional district includes 500 miles of California's Pacific coast, and as your congressperson, Susan Adams will preserve and protect our redwoods, fisheries, and tourism. Susan is firmly opposed to offshore drilling and LNG facilities, and will fight for clean air and water and sustainable use of natural resources. Susan Adams will protect our habitat, open space, parks, and natural environment. Fiscal Responsibility. As a member of the Board of Supervisors, Susan declined to participate in the county's pension plan or car allowance. As Congresswoman, Susan will decline the federal pension. She will work to ensure that every federal dollar is spent wisely. |
