Kami's political involvement began in the 1970s in Minneapolis working on the campaign of a City Council Member and then as intern for the Governor of Minnesota. A San Diego resident since 1977, Kami is co-owner of two local engineering and manufacturing businesses with 150+ employees in Kearny Mesa. A UCSD Alumna, she brings 20 years of industry experience as a software engineer, leadership and software trainer, and project manager to the San Diego County Democratic Party and the Central Committee. Kami and her husband Mark married in 1981 and are the parents of two adult children. Kami has been regular volunteer with the Party since 2006. In recognition for her leadership in the 2008 election, she received the 2009 Henry Auerbach Award. She was invited to become an Associate Member of the Central Committee in 2009. In the County Party's Grassroots Organizing (GO) Team, she has been a Precinct Leader, Community Coordinator, Trainer and the Countywide Coordinator. In 2012, a Grassroots Organizing Executive Board position was added to the County Party's By-Laws and Kami was elected by the Central Committee to fill that seat. In addition to the GO Team, she is the primary technical support for our voter and volunteer database, she provides interface with the Democratic National Committee and our local campaigns, assists with organization for our annual Silent Auction and other events, and serves as our in-house webmaster. Kami was appointed as a delegate to the 2012 California Democratic Party convention. She has presented workshops at the 2012 California State Convention and for the California Democratic Council on the impact on turnout through grassroots organizing for voter contact. |
