Full Biography for Patricia Martinez-Roach

I am a long time resident and public schoolteacher who emigrated from Mexico during my teenage years. My mother was born in Oakland, California and after her divorce from my father brought her four children to live in the United States. We lived in Tropicana and attended public schools. My mother always told me that serving my community was what I was meant to do in life. She was my role model and taught me that public service is just that - serving the public. I believe she was right. I am proud to serve on the East Side Union High School District Board of Trustees as Vice-President. I began my involvement as a community activist in the early 1980's when I was raising my two young sons as a single mother. I am a regular homeowner who has struggled and worked since I was 13 years-old. I've lived in the same house for 40 years and have worked as a public schoolteacher for 38 years in the Franklin-McKinley School District. I will retire soon after an amazing career as a Kindergarten Teacher. I am committed to public service; I began my involvement in the public arena when my youngest son was being discriminated against. I wanted to change policy affecting our children. I ran my first school board race for the Alum Rock Union School District losing by 50 votes. Two years later I beat an incumbent becoming the first Mexican-American woman on the board.
Evergreen needs an advocate for the people. I have the education, experience and passion to serve my community. It would be an honor to have your vote on June 5, 2012.
