My name is Andres Ramos. I've lived in Sacramento County all my life. I was born in East Sacramento, lived briefly in Oak Park, and have lived in Elk Grove for the past 17 years. I went to Elk Grove High School and was an active participant in the school's mock trial team. I first got involved in politics during Bill Durston's run for Congress back in 2008. In 2009 I joined Ami Bera's campaign for Congress and again got involved in politics. Through the Bera campaign I got more involved in local politics and was rubbing shoulders with local activists everywhere I went. I was recruited to join the California Vote Project where I worked registering Democrats door-to-door in hotly contested State Assembly districts here in Sacramento County. I was eventually introduced to the County Democratic Central Committee where I immediately felt at home. I was welcomed into a family of local activists by good Democrats like Steve Reed and Sean Donahoe. Soon thereafter I was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Central Committee and appointed vice chair of Voter Registration under Steve Reed. After the successes of the November 2010 election I committed myself to getting more involved with the Party and ran for the open seat of Parliamentarian. As Parliamentarian I've fought to keep the Central Committee faithful to its rules, open and transparent, and responsive to Central Committee members. I also serve as Secretary for the Green Democratic Club and Latino Democratic Club, and as Co-President of the Wellstone Progressive Democrats of Sacramento. On a civic level, I try to volunteer for my community as much as I can-- participating in park and creek clean ups and volunteering for community events. I serve on the City of Elk Grove's Multicultural Committee, appointed by Councilman Gary Davis, to outreach to Elk Grove's diverse communities. |
