I am a sixth generation Californian born in the state's capitol and raised in Redding, CA, I have a 28 year old son, Robert Fortune who is currently serving in the US Army, he served one tour in Iraq and one tour in Afghanistan. I am married to Vince Mack, who has been a teacher in the Grant Unified/Twin Rivers Unified School District for 23 years. My husband grew up in Del Paso Heights and is a 1980 graduate of Grant High School. I have two step daughters + Kira, 21, who is currently attending UC Santa Cruz and Emmy, 19, who attends Sacramento City College. I have lived in Sacramento since 1994.

Upon high school graduation I served for three years in the US Army as a military police officer in Washington DC and Frankfurt, Germany. I worked for the City of Redding dispatching police, fire and medical. During those three years I also worked as an EMT and first responder instructor, focusing on training firefighters and law enforcement officers. I was also a police dispatcher for the City of San Diego Police Department.

In the mid-90's I worked as an organizer/campaign manager. I started in Redding, CA and moved to Sacramento in 1994 to work campaigns. Following that campaign cycle I started working with the County of Sacramento so that I could spend more time with my son. My first position with the County was as the contracted office manager for the conversion of/redevelopment of McClellan Air Force Base. In 2000 I began my permanent employment with the County as an executive assistant for Supervisor Muriel Johnson. During my tenure with the County of Sacramento I also worked at the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District doing extensive budget work and the Mental Health Inpatient Treatment Center as the facility manager. I was laid off in September of 2009.

I have continued to engage in my community to involve neighbors by getting them registered to vote, to the ballot box and involved in the political process. This work has reinforced the importance of community and how change starts from the ground up. This is why I am combining my experience in public service, government work and community organizing and leadership to run for the Sacramento City Council.
