I have an extensive background in education having worked almost thirty years in roles ranging from classroom teacher for Head Start, to working with at-risk teens, to teaching at American River College. I want to use the knowledge I've gained from working as a teacher in the classroom to make sure the district is putting kids first and adequately preparing teachers. I earned my Ph.D in Family Studies and have a bachelor's in Elementary Education. Most of my collegiate teaching, research, publications, and presentations have focused on policies related to children and families. I have also served the community as a member of Del Paso Heights Redevelopment Advisory Commission and Sacramento's Latino Complete Count Committee. I believe the district must prepare our students with skills for the 21st century. This means teaching them the basics, as well as the life skills they'll need to succeed in their careers. As a teacher, and a guardian of two young children in the school district, I have worked hard to improve the district by participating in their school's site council and PTO. I encourage you to learn more about me at http://www.walterkawamoto.com Walter Garcia Kawamoto, Ph.D. Teacher |
