Political Philosophy for Edith Crawford
Candidate for |

I have had a lot of experience working with many of the programs at SCOE. As assistant superintendent/curriculum with the Galt Union High School District, I was very involved with the ROP/CTE and received much technical support to help grow and improve the CTE programs at Galt; the afterschool network also helped me in the successful writing of the Galt High and Estrelita Continuation High Schools after school grants. I have also worked closely with the AVID program for providing academic support for students not meeting their potential at both San Juan schools where I have worked and at Galt High. I have participated in various curriculum and intervention program activities and also had the opportunity to present inspirational videos to the SCOE court/community school staff. I have worked with the BTSA program, the Educational Technology Services, the Academic Decathlon and the Teacher of the Year events. Finally, I have been an on-line coach for the SCOE Leadership Institute which trains new administrators for the Sacramento region. With this in depth working knowledge of the various programs at SCOE, I can make informed decisions on issues that arise. Furthermore, I have significant educational experience for 25 years in the Sacramento and Rancho Cordova areas, where I have lived since 1988. I have been a high school English teacher, grant coordinator, high school vice-principal, assistant superintendent/curriculum and an educational consultant working on positive school climate, violence prevention, youth empowerment, anti-bullying and community service initiatives. I have experience with textbook adoption at the state level, and curriculum/program development for at-risk, gifted, English learners, special education and career technical education students. Finally and most importantly, I can contribute by bringing issues of youth engagement and voice in the support for the creation of effective educational systems. The issue of providing opportunities for youth to be actively involved in their own learning and educational system has not been included and in this changing environment it is necessary for our youth to be part of the system. |
