Matt Schonbrun, a criminal prosecutor and candidate for Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, has devoted his entire career to public service. Joining the Los Angeles City Attorney's office in 2002, Schonbrun has prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases and has led approximately 60 jury trials to verdict. His extensive courtroom experience provides him with many tools to be an effective judge.

Schonbrun's criminal prosecution experience of more than 10,000 hours in the courtroom includes cases involving domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, battery, criminal threats, sex crimes, identity theft, grand theft, vandalism, drug offenses, DUI, and vehicular manslaughter. An expert in anti-paparazzi cases, Schonbrun is the lead prosecutor for all anti-paparazzi cases stemming from legislation recently enacted at the behest of the L.A. City Attorney's Office.

A skilled courtroom practitioner, Schonbrun is one of the top trainers in trial skills and oral advocacy within the City Attorney's office, instructing newly-hired prosecutors on these skills, resulting in saving taxpayers' money and freeing up prosecutors to handle more cases. He has published two articles in the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journals titled respectively: The Art of Engineering Persuasion In and Out of the Courtroom, and Getting What You Want: A Prosecutor's Take on Negotiation and Case Settlement.

Born in Florida, Schonbrun grew up and attended public schools in Los Angeles. He earned his BA from the University of California at Santa Cruz and graduated Cum Laude from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. He and his wife Jacky are the proud parents of a newborn son they welcomed into their lives March 2012.
