Mayor Jeffrey Prang was first elected to the city council in March 1997 and reelected in 2001, 2005, and 2009. He has served as Mayor, from 2000-01, 2003-04, 2008-09, and currently serves as Mayor. In 2000, Mayor Prang was appointed by the Senate Rules Committee to the California Council on Criminal Justice, and in 2001, Assembly Speaker Robert Hertzberg appointed him to the California Council on Interstate Adult Offender Supervision. He served on both Councils until 2008. In 2006, Mayor Prang was elected to a one year term as President of the California Contract Cities Association (CCCA), a California organization of municipalities that provides legislative advocacy, policy education and analysis, and regional cooperation opportunities for over 75 California cities. He has served on numerous boards and commissions, including:
As a member of the Platform Committee to the 1996 Democratic National Convention, Mayor Prang co-authored platform planks on HIV, breast cancer, and adoption assistance for Gay and Lesbian parents. He served as an alternate Delegate to the 2000 Democratic National Convention. Born in Detroit in 1962 and raised in Warren, Michigan, Mayor Prang is a graduate of James Madison College at Michigan State University with a B.A. in International Relations. In 2004 he completed the Program for Senior Executives in Local and State Government at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He played the trombone in the St. Claire Shores Symphony Orchestra and the Michigan State Marching Band. |
