1. The Foster Care system in LA County continues to receive bad press. What measures need to be taken to improve the county’s services to children at risk?
|
Answer from Raj Pal Kahlon:
Caseloads need to be reduced so that children get the attention needed for their nurturing and well being. The caseload on the individual social worker does not allow for quality or time to adequately assess the needs of children.
Funding is needed to ensure that children are given what is needed in order to be successful.
Accountability for social workers and foster parents, should include unannounced visits, mandatory training and additional workshops which include nutritional meal planning, additional safety training and more time to visit schools, teachers, and the children.

2. The independent California Citizen’s Redistricting Commission drew entirely new boundaries for the state’s Assembly, Senate, and Congressional Districts. San Diego County is looking at creating an independent redistricting commission to draw supervisorial districts in the future. Would you support the creation of an independent redistricting commission for L.A. County to draw supervisorial districts in 2021? What should be criteria for choosing members of the commission?
|
Answer from Raj Pal Kahlon:
Yes
The criteria would entail that members should be chosen by the public without the interference of special interest.
