Experience Counts

Having attended many hours of board meetings, educational leadership meetings, and numerous instructional staff developments, I have the background to be an effective board member.

I realize how helpful I could be as a board member. The superintendent of our consolidated school district will be faced with many challenges as we continue with the consolidation. I believe I can bring my experience to help with the unexpected. There will probably be many twists and turns as we go through this process.

My experience in negotiations could be very helpful as the new district develops. I was President of the Fortuna Elementary Teacher's Assn. for seven years. I was involved in negotiations for about 15 years. I attended many Educational Leadership Trainings. As a board member, I would like to participate with negotiations.

Teachers are required to attend many inservices annually. I would like to see that the inservices that our teachers are required to attend are of the highest quality and merit available. As a board member, I would like to confer with teachers and support personnel at the beginning of each year to select the best inservices that will in turn support our student's educational progress.

I have attended Board Meetings for many years. I know how they work and the usual protocol. Yet,a board member must not only attend board meetings. They should visit the schools, meet the teachers and support personnel, and most of all, the children. If elected, this is the type of involved board member, I intend to be!
