A 20-year resident of Alameda County, Andrew Wiener has been in the active practice of law in the Bay Area since 1984. In 2005, after 10 years as a partner at the San Francisco law firm of Haas & Najarian, Wiener established his own law and mediation practice, emphasizing employment discrimination law and mediation of workplace conflicts. Wiener has achieved the highest peer review rating (AV) from Martindale-Hubbell, which an objective indicator of a lawyer's high ethical standards and professional ability, generated from evaluations of lawyers. Outside of his law practice, Wiener has a demonstrated commitment to keeping the public trust and ensuring integrity and honesty in public affairs. For nearly 20 years, Andrew has volunteered as an arbitrator to assist in the resolution of homeless shelter conflicts, as part of providing a system of justice in a community with limited or no means to access the court system. He served for two terms + including 2 years as Chair + on the Oakland Public Ethics Commission, whose mission is to promote transparency and integrity in government affairs. Wiener has been married for 27 years, to Beatrice Motamedi, a certified journalism educator, credentialed teacher, and journalist. Beatrice taught English and Journalism in the Oakland Unified School District, now teaches at the Urban School, and spent years as the co-managing editor of the Oaktown Teen Times, a youth-written newspaper. Andrew and Beatrice are the proud parents of two adult children raised in Oakland + Claire, 23, and Evan, 20. Wiener earned his B.A. from Brown University, which included studies at Oxford University in England, and his J.D. from the University of Pacific's McGeorge School of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of California in good standing, and admitted to practice in all of the trial and appellate courts in the state. In his spare time, he enjoys writing fiction, studies acoustic guitar, plays many sports, and explores the East Bay trails with his dog, Kihei. |
