Political Philosophy for Aisha Knowles
Candidate for |
I am a strong supporter of public schools. I was born and raised in Alameda County, attended local public schools, and went on to UC Berkeley. As your trustee, I will improve communication between the County Board of Education and our local community; work to better prepare our schools in fire safety and emergency preparedness; assist schools with the challenges of state budget cuts, and ensure that we are training, recruiting, and retaining quality teachers. As a community educator for the Alameda County Fire Department, I have developed meaningful partnerships with organizations that serve the most vulnerable students and families in District 4, including initiating a job training program for at-risk youth. I've been active in our community as a youth mentor and literacy tutor, and serve on the boards of Building Futures with Women and Children and Hope for the Heart, overseeing multi-million dollar budgets. As Chair of the Ashland Citizens' Advisory Committee, I helped spearhead the building of a new $24 million teen center opening this year. I remain committed to making a difference in the lives of children and families. It would be an honor to serve you on the County Board of Education. |
