Education FundingBy Jason G. WhiteCandidate for State Representative; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; District 5; Democratic Party | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
The Corbett budgets have crippled school districts and the opportunity for higher learning.Like many of you I want my children and grandchildren to have the opportunity to obtain a good education. I want them to be able to support themselves and their families, and be productive members of society. Unfortunately this dream is being lost in our Commonwealth. The current govenor and republican dominated legislature have made severe education funding cuts and propose even more. These cuts put unreanable burdens on our local communities, will raise local property taxes, and reduce the quality of our schools. If the proposed cuts to public education take effect, it would mean that public education has lost $1 billion in funding since Gov. Corbett has taken office. State universities funding will be reduced to nearly the level it was 24 years ago in 1988-89. The economic impact of these cuts is drastic. In todays economy people need to have quality education and training to secure emplyment that will enable them to support their family. As state representative I will fight to restore the cuts that have been made to education and futher attempts to defund our schools. |
