Infrastructure

By Tom G. O'Brien

Candidate for State Senator; Pennsylvania State Senate; District 13; Democratic Party

This information is provided by the candidate
Our highway and bridge systems are falling apart, which is dangerous and will slow commerical activity.
Value Our Infrastructure Politicians have allowed Pennsylvania's roads, bridges and rail system to fall into such a state of decay that the American Society of Civil Engineers has declared our infrastructure as in a state of crisis: "On May 24, 2010, we released our second Report Card, the 2010 Report Card for Pennsylvania's Infrastructure, throughout the state. "In the four years between Report Cards, the state of Pennsylvania's infrastructure has not improved--in fact, we are witnessing a crisis in our state's infrastructure that will affect every Pennsylvanian for years to come." This is an obvious example of "Passing the Buck". Politicians have consistently put off to tomorrow what's needed today. Continued delay will lead to a transportation crisis with huge costs, diminished quality of life, and injuries and possibly death. We should have learned from the 2007 Minnesota I-35W bridge collapse. USA Today reported: "Minnesota officials were warned as early as 1990 that the bridge that collapsed into the Mississippi River was "structurally deficient," yet they relied on patchwork repairs and stepped-up inspections that unraveled amid a thunderous plunge of concrete and automobiles." It is not if a catastrophe is going to happen but when. We need develop and execute a comprehensive plan to rebuild the Commonwealth's infrastructure NOW
