Political Philosophy for Dan Johnson
Candidate for |

|
My philosophy is simple - taking a common sense and business approach to government to eliminate what isnt working, streamline what is working to make it more efficient and to reduce and eliminate those things that hold Pennsylvania back. As someone who has turned around dozens of failing facilities, I see this as an opportunity to do no less with our state - to turn it around - but not just for today, for the long term so it can grow and prosper. Key areas include: 1) ELIMINATING school property taxes entirely, not just reduce them. This puts $10 Billion dollars back in the hands of property owners, increases property values, decreases restrictions on business and creates an estimated 130,000 new jobs. 2) ELIMINATE corporate tax of 10%, not just reduce it in small, minor steps over 6 years. If we want to encourage businesses to relocate here or to encourage new ones to start, lets not strangle them - lets let them flourish! The new jobs these will create will require workers, who need to buy homes, cars, have families, etc - that creates revenue for the state that far outweighs what the tax would collect and improves our economy. 3) ELIMINATE policies that add to the cost of public projects such as Prevailng Wage. This adds 15 to 40% more to the cost of projects such as roads and schools unecessarily. Eliminating this is the right thing to do with taxpayer money. 4) STREAMLINE permitting and licensing processes. The state has gotten involved in many things that are better left to business and, in doing so, has created hoops and hurdles to jump through just to get some of the required paperwork done. We can make this situation better and easier for businesses to focus on what they do best - create jobs, grow and be successful. 5) FOCUS government on the essential services. If we got government out of the things it doesnt do well, we all benefit. We need government for schools and roads and other large scale operations - but even there we can reduce expenses and improve performance to get the most bang for our taxpayer dollars. |
