Tim Rood is an urban planner specializing in walkable and sustainable development who's been active in civic affairs for years. His professional practice involves negotiating complex contracts, leading community outreach processes, and making frequent presentations before councils, boards and commissions. Tim has led multi-disciplinary consultant teams in complex planning projects for public clients in Arizona and New Mexico, on the Oakland waterfront, and in Downtown San Rafael and Healdsburg.

Tim holds master's degrees in architecture and city planning from UC Berkeley and a bachelor's degree from Columbia University. He is a licensed architect, a LEED Accredited Professional in Neighborhood Development, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. Since 2006 he has been a partner at Community Design + Architecture in Oakland. Designing livable streets is a major focus of CD+A's work. CD+A led the team that developed San Francisco's Better Streets Plan, which recently won awards from the American Planning Association and the Congress for the New Urbanism. Tim also serves on the board of Human Impact Partners, a Oakland-based non-profit dedicated to the consideration of health in all decision-making.

A resident of Piedmont since 2002, Tim plays trumpet in the Piedmont Community Band. He lives on lower Wildwood Avenue with his wife and their two children, who played baseball, basketball, tennis and soccer, attended Wildwood and are now at PMS. You may have seen Tim and Muffy walking their dog Moby through the hills of Piedmont or seen Tim biking to work. Tim's been involved in our schools through the Curriculum Council and the Gifted and Talented Education Advisory Committee, as well as chaperoning field trips and overnights and helping with Walk to School Day. He joined the board of the Piedmont Swim Club in 2005 and became its president in 2007, leading the negotiations with the City over the next three years in pursuit of a long-term lease. When news of the City's first million-dollar subsidy of the Piedmont Hills Undergrounding District first surfaced in December 2009, Tim organized an email campaign that spurred dozens of Piedmonters to express their concerns to the City Council, many for the first time. He has continued his involvement in civic affairs through the Piedmont Civic Association and the Piedmont League of Women Voters.
