Edgewood is a community with many things to offer. To continue to keep costs low and Edgewood safe we must be creative in working with our sister communities.
I've lived in Edgewood for over 25 years (Seddon Road, Gordon Street and now Lloyd Avenue). I've raised two children in Edgewood and have been a parent volunteer at Edgewood elementary, with the WH marching band and baseball team, and a Den mother.
I've been on Council for 12 years. In that time, Edgewood, like our neighboring communities, has experienced economic challenges, Federal mandates without Federal funding, changing assessments, and challenges on how to keep those activities that keep our community such a great place to live.
In that time, we've also managed to keep Edgewood's real estate values stable (and improving). We've opened communication with our sister communities and civic organizations to recharge Regent Square, and to work to solve problems in our area. We've supported our Police department and the Volunteer Fire Department in their efforts to coordinate public safety activites and programs in our neighborhoods. We've worked with Nine Mile Run to assess our trees and to work on a plan to keep Edgewood green.
In working with our sister communities and multi-municipal groups, we've been able to share (not merge) resources to keep the costs of services down. We've participated in sewer studies through 3Rivers Wet Weather, and CONNECT. We've joined with the Council of Governments to start a joint testing and certification program for Police, Public Works and for the Volunteer Fire Department. We've met with residents on policing issues and worked to facilitate discussion on keeping Regent Square a neighborhood of neighborhoods.
Edgewood has a wealth of talented volunteers and professionals willing to offer their expertise to help us problem solve to move us into the future. I've been fortunate to work with some of those people and to have new residents offer their help.
Throughout my time on Council, I've listened and learned how to facilitate working with others and have been able to share where we've been so that we can see how far we've come and what we need to move forward.
There is more that needs to be done, and I believe we are on solid ground to do it. I would would appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve Edgewood, representing our interests and concerns, and tending to those bridges we've built with other communities, to keep us safe, to keep our tax base sound, and to enjoy the spirit of Community that is Edgewood.
