Premier Example of Academic, Artistic, and Athletic Excellence

The economic challenges we face and have faced for far too long are making us weary and prone to skepticism. We want changes and we want them now. Unfortunately, technology and our economic base are constantly shifting. It's difficult to keep up with the pace of IPods, IPads, Smart Boards, Cyber Options,etc. As School Board Directors we are constantly questioning cost VS value and exactly how best to educate students for their future world.

I don't have easy answers, but I do know where I stand.

I believe that North Allegheny is still one of the best examples of a well rounded education this country has to offer. Nearly 5000 of our 8000 students benefit from our band, orchestra, chorus and fine art programs. Thousands more play on a wide variety of sports teams and in intramural programs. We are known for the music and beauty our students create.

Academically, one has only to look at the Pittsburgh Business Times Guide to Western PA Schools, to see that our students always give their best. We specialize in AP, Honors and Gifted resources. We are known for our Special Education programs.

I know the next decade will bring huge budget concerns and we will be required to identify and prioritize educational, technological and structural needs for our students and our taxpayers.

However, I truly believe that we need to continue to provide and embrace all three of these areas.

Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I can't imagine North Allegheny without the music, without our arts programs, without the sweat, whistles and cheering fans. I won't let the exceptional education provided to my own children become less for current and future students.
