I have always lived in older communities; I grew up in Price Hill, moved to Norwood after college, and then to Golf Manor in 1979. I met my wife, Lisa, who was born in Golf Manor, in 1980, and raised three girls here. I became interested in Village government in the early 90's, working as a volunteer with Mayor Donna Faulk to get recycling started in the community and to renovate Volunteer park. I recognized back then that the community was beginning to suffer from age and loss of investment, particularly in the commercial district. This was not going to be a hands-off community. I wanted to get involved to keep Golf Manor competitive and a great place for my kids to grow up. I consider myself and advocate for older communities and I believe on a very fundamental level that living in older communities, making use of already built out infrastructure with availability of mass transportation, is our best path to a sustainable future. I am appalled at the urban sprawl all around us that is draining the life out of older neighborhoods. While many have abandoned these older communities as they have changed, I choose to stay and lead the urban renewal effort in our village; that is my mission. |
