YVETTE'S VISION FOR CINCINNATI If you have no vision, then you have no future. I know that Cincinnati can be a great place to work and live, but only if we have vision, a solid plan for getting there, and people primed and ready to make the vision a reality. On this site, you will learn more about my vision for Cincinnati, my plan for getting us there, and why I am able to make it happen. I envision a Cincinnati with thriving, diverse communities that provide unique opportunities for the individuals and families who live and work there. I envision a Cincinnati where business, community, and government come together to resolve the city's problems and celebrate the city's successes. I envision a Cincinnati where residents feel safe and are invested in maintaining and improving the safety of their neighborhoods. I envision a Cincinnati that attracts new businesses and talent, and where both long-time residents and newcomers are proud to call Cincinnati their home. I envision a Cincinnati that resolves problems and provides services in an efficient and effective manner. Cincinnati City Council makes decisions that affect many different areas of life, from public safety to economic development and everything in between. No matter the issue, citizens should be confident that their leaders will approach it thoughtfully, knowledgeably, impartially, and consistently. Here are my "governing principles," the rules that I will apply to the many complex situations our city faces. YVETTE'S GOVERNING PRINCIPLES Cincinnati City Council makes decisions that affect many different areas of life, from public safety to economic development and everything in between. No matter the issue, citizens should be confident that their leaders will approach it thoughtfully, knowledgeably, impartially, and consistently. Here are my "governing principles," the rules that I will apply to the many complex situations our city faces. Transparency/Accountability Trust is the foundation of effective leadership and good government. Public servants should be honest and transparent about the efforts they are making to improve our city, and accountable for the decisions they make. I hope to restore Cincinnatians' trust in city government by promoting open and honest dialogue about the policies implemented by City Council and their impact on our community. Vision/Forward Thinking If we are not moving forward, we are moving backwards. While we have challenges that we are currently facing, we must also look ahead and develop and implement programs and processes that will prepare us for the next 10 years. As a member of City Council, I plan to create policy and make decisions that will allow us to proactively resolve future problems, and create future value. Working Collaboratively/Building Bridges Cincinnati has great resources within our local government, in corporations, non-profit organizations, and the like. But we need a plan that will allow us to work collaboratively and synergistically to solve our problems. I value working collaboratively because I know that you cannot make significant change without working together. As a member of City Council, I will bring together Cincinnati stakeholders to resolve our issues and we will work collaboratively to build a more vibrant Cincinnati. Intelligent, Informed Decisionmaking Overcoming our challenges and pursuing greater opportunity for our city is a big job. Resources are limited, and when we decide to pursue one opportunity, we are deciding not to pursue another. Therefore, we must have a plan and establish priorities for our future. As a member of City Council, every policy I propose and every decision I make will result from careful and deliberate consideration, after evaluating the broader impact those decisions have on our community. Creative, Innovative Problem Solving Everyone knows that if you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always gotten. The complex issues facing our city cannot be attacked with just a hammer and nails. Conventional methods of resolving our issues lock us in to conventional results. We must find new ways to solve our problems and not be afraid to think outside the box if we truly want to combat the problems of today and tomorrow. |
