The City ParksBy Steven Tatsuo "Steve" OkamotoCandidate for Council Member; City of Foster City | |

How vital are the parks?I have been involved with the city parks for the past 22 years. It started when I managed a Little League team in 1989 then in 1992 I became an umpire. In 2003 I was inducted into the Sports Wall of Fame at Sea Cloud Park. In 2006 I was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. In 2010 I was the Chairman of the Committee. In 2009 and 2010 I worked with the City Council and the City staff to craft two resolutions that were designed to protect the health of the residents. The first resolution was to ban smoking at public events such as the Fourth of July Celebration and Art in the Park. Then in 2010 I again worked with the Council and staff to ban smoking in our city parks. This not only protected the health of the residents but it also saved the city thousands of dollars in clean up costs. The 27 parks are vital to the health, welfare and economy of the City and its residents. I will do whatever I can to keep the parks clean, well maintained and a pride to our community. |
