Political Philosophy for David Chiu

I moved to San Francisco for the reasons the world loves our city - our vibrant and diverse neighborhoods, our creative and innovative spirit, and our deep commitment to social justice. I've worked as a civil rights attorney and a criminal prosecutor here. I founded a small business here. I've volunteered as a neighborhood leader and chair of an affordable housing organization here. And for the past three years, I've had the honor and privilege of representing our city's northeast neighborhoods of District 3 and serving as President of the Board of Supervisors. Throughout my career, I've seen what's possible when city government works hand-in-hand with people of every background and from every neighborhood. Whether we're leading the fight for marriage equality, providing health care for all our residents, or cultivating a 21st century economy, we achieve great things when we come together around our shared values. I ran for office in 2008 because City Hall wasn't working together to get things done. Over the past decade, there had many times when the Mayor and members of the Board of Supervisors were challenged in being able to come together on the difficult issues of the day. Three years into my time as Board President, I'm proud that things have changed for the better - whether it is how we balance significant budget deficits, win the America's Cup or rein in rising pension costs. But I want to make sure that San Francisco continues to move forward. I am ready to continue to lead that effort, and believe that together we can build a better San Francisco - a city that will continue to be a beacon to the entire world, and the pride of all who live here. That's why I'm running for Mayor. I have released my Blueprint for a 21st Century San Francisco, which is the most comprehensive collection of policy proposals put forth by any mayoral candidate this year. Visit http://www.davidchiuformayor.com/blueprint to learn more about my specific ideas and proposals to create jobs, improve our education and transit system, build more affordable housing, make San Francisco government work smarter and better, and more. |
