Every San Franciscan -- whether they have a child in the schools or not -- has a stake in and a responsibility toward ensuring that every child in our city receives an excellent public education that prepares him or her for college, a career, and a lifetime of civic engagement.For our city to rise to its full potential as an economic powerhouse, robust democracy and thriving cultural center, our public school system must nourish each child to reach his or her educational potential. Every San Franciscan - whether they have a child in the schools or not - has a stake in and a responsibility toward ensuring that every child in our city receives an excellent public education that prepares him or her for college, a career, and a lifetime of civic engagement. Our next Mayor must use the bully pulpit and moral authority of the office to bring all stakeholders to the table - parents and concerned residents, business and community leaders, teachers, administrators, and the students themselves - to build a world class public education system right here in San Francisco. Before his election to public office, David served as the board chair of the Youth Leadership Institute, a national leader in the field of youth development. As President of the Board of Supervisors, David has supported supplementing school funding from the city's general fund, providing teachers with affordable housing options in the city, and encouraging the private sector to be a partner in supporting local public schools.
