What can we do to bring the human element to our schools. As a parent, I know that your children aren't a test score to be used as an advertising ploy to entice home buyers. Each child is unique, possessing the potential for limitless possibilities. Your children are my special interest How many of us look back on our own childhoods and the lost dreams we once had? Is that what we want for our children? Concerning children, it seems that the administrative attitude is that of a good steak, to grill and grill and grill some more. What does this produce? Like a steak, it becomes dried out and tough. As parents and teachers, we understand that we must amend the soil, with love and understanding, to create fertile minds where the seeds of academia will flourish. As an active school volunteer, I see second graders headed down the road to Pelican Bay. I continually ask myself,"what can I do to inspire these troubled children to alter their course to a destination of being a happy, well adjusted adult that sees the blessings of life around them and graciously passes the torch to the next generation with the message, "Pass it on". I am indeed my brothers' keeper. |
