By Samantha Sargent

Candidate for Council Member; City of San Rafael

This information is provided by the candidate
I was first introduced Marin county when I was a student at Sonoma State studying Economics and living in the West End. After graduating I moved to Silicone Valley and worked Sales and Marketing high-tech start-up companies. I moved out of the Bay Area for a few years but missed the beauty and nature.

Upon returning I was drawn back to the beautiful nature and community oriented atmosphere of San Rafael. My passion for renovating older homes, combined with my project management experience led me into the building trade. As a licensed contractor I now help others build or remodel their homes.

Upon moving back to SR four years ago I now run a small, local business and I am very active in local neighborhood activities and issues. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Gerstle Park Neighborhood Association, represent neighborhood issues at the Federation of Neighborhood meetings to follow the concerns of residents throughout San Rafael, and attending the monthly City Manager meetings to bring pressing issues to her attention.

I have been effective in my own neighborhood regarding

  • protecting and improving our parks (Gerstle and Albert)
  • working with the SRPD to protect our residents
  • working with the City to bring a baseball proposal to our City that fits into the space and is friendlier to the environment

Being a champion of the residents and environment, I have been recently honored with the endorsement of the Sierra Club which I feel is a reflection of my commitment and ability address San Rafael's future economic and development needs without sacrificing the environment to do so.
