District Fiscal Health
- Protect local funding for the Carmel Schools.
- An increasing student population and declining revenues means we have to maintain a laser focus on our goals and priorities -- we have to keep budget cuts as far away from the classroom as possible.
Academic Excellence
- Attract and retain the most qualified teachers and other instructional staff.
- A-G graduation requirement as the default curriculum for our high school students.
- Close the achievement gap by supporting our significant subgroups (English Language Learners, Students with Disabilities, Hispanic/Latino, and Students who are Economically Disadvantaged).
Student Well-Being and Safety
- Despite our current interventions, surveys indicated that the levels of alcohol and drug use as well as bullying among our students remain high. We are now adopting an evidence-based curriculum that is started in the elementary schools, continues through the middle school and high school, and utilizes parents as our partners. This program has had proven success in schools throughout the country. Nonetheless, we will be closely monitoring the results with our students.
- Excellent instructional materials, technology and facilities are important to student learning and achievement. We plan to continue to improve and make more efficient the equipment we offer to students by "virtualizing" our computer systems. We also are nearing the end of our building program and hope to complete this last phase on-time and within budget.
