Personal Statement As a member of the Board of Directors of the Cypress Fire Protection District, I believe I am an effective contributor to the oversight functions and direction of the Board based on my diverse management background and broad range of experiences.

Throughout my professional life, working in very demanding positions, I have set aside time to make contributions to the communities in which I have lived. Community support and service was the norm in rural farming communities, and this aspect of citizenship is one of the backbones of our country.

Lived, worked and raised family during four separate time periods in four foreign countries (Switzerland, France, former Soviet Union, France and several years in Japan, with a startup company, consulting) during academic, research and in business positions, as well as working in additional countries in international business operations. We learned the cultures and languages.

Home is in the Carmel area since 1970. My six children graduated from Carmel Schools and five from UC Berkeley. One daughter is presently a senior at Northeastern University in Boston.

Skills and Abilities: Possess the analytic skills to understand projects, budgets, and organizational issues. Possess a working knowledge and experience in a broad array of disciplines.

As a manager and high-level executive in international businesses (Varian Associates and Siemens Corporation), demonstrated ability to lead highly technical projects, completed on or ahead of schedule, on or below budget and meeting or exceding specifications, and leading the technical and scientific developments at the "hands-on" level.

Ability to assume management of poorly performing operations, and lead them to a high level of performance. Equally comfortable in working at the operational level, and in government, academic and professional environments

Academic and Business Background Former professor Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, instructor at the University of Zurich, Switzerland and at University of Strasbourg in France. Appointed as Adjunct Professor at UCLA during collaborative research performed in the former Soviet Union 1970-71, with ongoing working visits there through 1976, while Professor at Naval Post Gradate School.

Conceived, designed and constructed research equipment and high tech commercial systems. Held management, marketing and executive positions in corporations doing business on a worldwide basis both in US and Europe. Also conceived and lead development and production of systems to destroy toxic wastes in air and soils and shipped systems to Japan, where I installed and set up the operations and trained personel. Worked on site in Japan for eight years during this period. Wrote the marketing, tecnical and operating manuals for the companies and users of the equipment.

Formerly active in federal, international, professional and trade organization committees dealing with government agencies and setting standards for radiation therapy equipment, worldwide.

Family Business Before retirement, a founder and co-owner of a family business that includes two sons and wives, operating resorts under concession contracts with the National Park Service and the US Forest Service in Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Forest. I handle issues with State and Federal agencies in management activities for family resort business.

My contributions to the communities in which I have lived include: A founding Director of Big Sur International Marathon. Member of Monterey County grand jury, 2005. Scoutmaster four years in Menlo Park, CA. Served as an adult leader with Boy Scout Troop 127, Carmel Valley. Former President of Padre Parents, parent organization at Carmel High School during the 1970's. VP of Carmel River School PTA and programs during the 2000's. Former Vice President and President of Carmel Valley Little League 1975 and 76 (part of Carmel Youth Baseball)

Personal Background Grew up in Stow, Ohio, a rual township Worked on family farms and then as a machinist in high school and during college to earn money for college. Have applied these skills in research and industrial applications. Spare time: running, weight training, vegetable gardening.
