Candidate Statement for Diane Creasey

By Diane Jacobson Creasey

Candidate for Board Member; Monterey Peninsula Unified School District; Trustee Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate
I have dedicated my life and career to serving children and families as an early childhood teacher and registered nurse.
Why I Want to continue Serving As a Board Member

I believe that promoting the educational, social, emotional, and physical development of every child within the context of their school, family, and community is critical to the success of society. I was an early childhood and kindergarten teacher for 6 years prior to my current 28-year career as a Critical Care Nurse. I have dedicated my life and career to helping individuals and families learn skills and information to enhance the quality of their lives.

Having served on the MPUSD board since March of 2007, I have valued the role and responsibilities that are inherent in being a board member. It is vital that promoting academic excellence for all students is the principle that lies at the foundation of all decisions a board member makes.

When I first joined the board, MPUSD had a number of schools in "Program Improvement status". With the transformation and restructuring of our schools, which was a requirement by the state to get out of Program Improvement, and the framework for a $!6,000,000 School Improvement Grant the district received in 2009; MPUSD is now well on the way to closing the achievement gap that that was limiting the potential of English language learners, special education students, and socioeconomic disadvantaged families throughout the district.

While my daughter attended MPUSD schools between 1996 and 2009, I served for 12 years on PTA boards and the Monterey High School Academy of Oceanographic Sciences board (MAOS). I believe that parent and community involvement is crucial to promote the success of students and building healthy, vibrant communities. The input of parents, staff, students, and community is valued as the board works with the district administration in making MPUSD schools a great opportunity and experience for the students and life long learners we serve.
