Charter Oak is a rare, diverse and tight-knit community of involved parents and concerned citizens. Friends and neighbors work together to make it a great place to live and raise a family. We have generations of families in Charter Oak, people who were raised here and come back to raise their own children here, or to teach and coach here. I feel blessed to be a part of Charter Oak. But we must face reality that our district is facing many challenges. We need to stay competitive with other districts and that is why API and AYP scores are very important. Parents do pay attention to scores. Parents are concerned about the quality of education in our district. If the parents and citizens see the need for change, they will work to make it happen. They will look at our ballot and determine who is best suited to be on the board. I made that committment in 2005 when I was first elected to the board. During the time I served, Charter Oak schools were improving! Scores were up and over $2 million was invested in new technology for students. We moved 6th graders to elementary schools where they belong, and parents told me that it was the best decision we ever made. My term expired in 2009. Now, we learn that our schools are struggling to meet State and Federal standards. We must do something about it. I am ready to step in and make tough decisions. I may not be popular with the other board member, but believe me I will represent parents and students FIRST in every decision that comes before me. I will never forget who I am serving: YOU, Charter Oak parents and students. Count on me to do the job. I do it for the citizens, for the parents and, more importantly, for the kids. |
