I have had the honor of serving our district for the last four years. I have learned so much and feel priviledged to have been given your trust to carry out the duties of a Board of Education trustee.
During the 2007 campaign, I made the following statement: I am not a politician! I am a parent who believes that our district can make greater strides!" When I reflect what has been accomplished over the last four years, I see the following: our test scores at all sites have increased. Some of our sites have over a 900 API. The dedication of our staff, and the implementation of Data Director and professional learning communities contributes to our success.
When I was sworn in, the district was starting to see the first effects of the State of California's impending budget crisis. The district was also stalled in regards to the Emperor rebuild from an Arson fire. I am happy to say that Emperor finished construction, and now has full use of it's new building. I have made many tough decisions, and have not wavered in my core beliefs. Currently, how many surrounding districts can say they have not had to take furlough days? Our district has not had any furlough days, during these troubled times with the State.
I, along with Janet Rhee advocated for a safe schools forum during our first year on the Board. The forum was a great success in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. We have continued this forum, and the inclusion of community involvement with students and parents. Great things occur, when a parent has resources to assist them, and a supportive school district that places the student first.
I am an advocate for the Arts programs, and have been supportive and instrumental in bringing forth curriculum to the band and vocal arts programs. Prior to 2008, the district was not providing any type of supportive materials for these two programs.
I am a Supervisor with the Medical Board of California, over seeing a unit that supervises Probationers. I make tough decisions daily, that may affect one's licensure substantially affecting their livelihood. I have the same dedication to the district, as I do my job. It is easy to look at things at face value, and not understand the law and how it is applied, especially within a public school district. I believe that our students should receive the best education, leaving our high school with a core set of values and ethics that has prepared them for adulthood. In order to do this, you have to understand what you can and cannot do, and understand that staff may not always be in agreement. When staff is 89 percent of our budget, it does not leave us much room to maintain the direct needs of students. Our students deserve to be technological educated and prepared for college or work. Computer usage and knowledge is the pencil and paper of the past. We must provide an infrastructure that supports this. Our students deserve to be in buildings that are modern and are environmentally friendly. In my four years on this Board, we have slowly been able to move the district forward in these areas.
The state of California is threatening mid year budget cuts, if tax revenues fall, and decreased funding in years to come, if the tax base is not increased. I believe that experienced leadership is a necessity. Please vote for me, this November.
Thank you for your support!!!!!
