One third of Duarte's population consists of seniors and youth
and it should be our obligation to take care of them. The youth of today will be the workforce of tomorrow, and the seniors of today took care of us when we were youth.
I remember going to the local boys club in Pasadena during my developing years offering programs to help develop my mind. Interestingly, it was inaugurated by then Governor Reagan. This was a place where they allowed you to build projects with your hands using your imagination and honing your skills.
The best part was, it was open till 9 p.m. There were three of them in Pasadena, strategically placed, keeping youth busy and trouble free. Our teen center is great, but it closes at 7 p.m. It needs to stay open longer, those extra 2 hours can make the difference in the world. Our senior center is nice, however, we need to make it more fun with more activities and programs to keep our seniors more active and entertained. We need to find ways to help fund these programs. We also need tutoring programs at the teen center to help them succeed in their studies. A smarter student makes a better Duartean. A better Duartean creates a better community. You might say
"wishful thinking". Well. 90% of my wishful thinking I have made possible, help me make these thoughts a reality. Vote Henry Baltazar Nov 8th.
