Nathaniel C. Nichols, Esquire

Education and Experience

Nathaniel C. Nichols graduated from Howard University where he majored in Political Science and minored in Business Administration. He graduated from the Columbia University School of Law with a Juris Doctorate degree. "Nate" began his legal career in 1974 at Delaware County Legal Assistance Association, where he became the Managing Attorney. He then went into private law practice, first with Early, Nichols and Givens. Later he formed the firm of Nichols and Givens.

In 1986 he joined the faculty of Widener Law School as a clinical professor. He served as Dean of Students at Widener and is now the Director of Clinical Programs. As a clinical professor, he has trained hundreds of law students to practice before the Delaware County Courts. Over his academic career he has taught Creditor's Rights, Consumer Bankruptcy, Domestic Violence Law, and Property.

Nate is admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the Federal Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the American, Pennsylvania, and Delaware County Bar Associations. He was voted "Well Qualified" to be a judge by a vast majority of those attorneys voting in the plebiscite of the Delaware County Bar Association.

Service

Professor Nichols has been committed to serving the community throughout his legal career. He is the current President of the Board of Directors of the Chester Education Foundation and he serves on the Board of Directors of the Delaware County Housing Coalition. From 1995 to 2010, he served on the 7th Congressional District West Point Selection Committee. Nate has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Delaware County Bar Association, the Domestic Abuse Project, the Palmer House, and the Delaware County Legal Assistance Association.

Scholarship

Professor Nichols is the author of several law review articles on legal issues of importance to consumers. For example his article entitled Home Alone: Home Mortgage Foreclosure Rescue Scams and the Theft of Equity addressed the practice of duping seniors into deeding their homes to scam artists. He has been a contributing author to the Delaware County Elder Law Handbook Resource Guide and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute Annual Bankruptcy Forum.
