THE ANSWERSBy John "Bart" BartholomeoCandidate for School Director; Rose Tree Media School District; Republican Party | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
There is no one, single, right answer. It will take input from and SACRIFICES by ALL stakeholders to make the system better. It is only about one group, the kids.IT TAKES A VILLAGE..... There needs to be a commitment from parents, students, teachers, staff and the wider community to make our school system successful. Parents cannot expect District staff to supervise or discipline unruly children. It is not fair to the teachers or children who take their educations seriously. Students must recognize their duty is to come to school prepared for the task of learning. Part of the educational process is learning self-discipline and to have respect for others. Establishment of a dress code, elimination of cell phones during school hours and "rules of engagement" will help teach self-discipline as part of the maturing process. Students must acknowledge that they share responsibility for their educations. NIRVANA ? - Do I have all the answers? No. Neither does anyone else. But I see areas that need improvement and I will enthusiastically commit myself to the task. If I do not have the answer to any question, I would seek out a source that does. As a member of the Board I will be willing to stand up and say NO! when a decision is not appropriate for the issue at hand. There are times that one must be willing to just say no. I will strive to review all fiscal commitments. I will respect and seek to involve all parties willing to step forward. The responsibility of a school board member requires a commitment of time, research and analysis. I am making that commitment. WILL EVERYONE BE HAPPY? Absolutely not. But then again, you can NEVER make improvements and satisfy ALL parties. There are many stakeholders in the RTMSD and as with many similar situations, not everyone can be 100% satisfied but the end goal of providing better educational opportunities to the children is the most important goal to achieve. My professional work experience requires unfettered and unbiased analysis of complex problems, research into available alternatives, serious consideration of diverse opinions and the ability to make tough decisions. As an engineer, I have managed programs exceeding $50 million annually, with a diverse staff of professionals on programs for demanding customers. Someone may occasionally disagree with my view but I can assure you that I will work tirelessly for the success of the District and highest achievement for every student. |
