As A community reach out to the youth and encourage them to take advantage of local cultural and recreational opportunities. As a family man who is happily married with a 1 year old daughter; I understand that no matter how good of a job we do as parents it still takes a community to raise a child. It is important to me to make sure Swissvale remains a great community for families. Every year I grow increasingly concerned about how our perception and the perception of our children has been negatively affected by the harmful images on the TV programs we watch, in music we listen to and on the internet we explore. We are all constantly exposed to ugly human behavior and stereotypes that corrode our own self-image and tear at the very fabric of our families, our communities and our nation. I believe censorship and draconian control over the media and our lives will only lead to more trouble. That we ourselves know right from wrong and need to become the change we want to see in the world around us. It is up to each and every one of us, whether we have children or not to help the young people in our community understand that it is not cool to live a selfish and irresponsible lifestyle and to know right from wrong. As parents and as a community, it is our responsibility to provide the youth with the necessary guidance that will help them make good choices in their lives. Young people model their behavior by those around them; they look to us for the instruction and encouragement needed to avoid the many temptations that they will certainly confront in their lives. Swissvale residents have accesses to a wealth or cultural and recreational opportunities to keep every man woman and child happy and healthy. Kids need an outlet and something to do. I want Swissvale to continue to encourage and support our community to take advantage of these opportunities to their full |
