Michael A. Gin is currently serving on his 2nd Term as the 28th Mayor of the City of Redondo Beach, having been reelected as Mayor in March 2009.

Mike also serves as field deputy for Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe. He represents Supervisor Knabe in the communities of San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor City, Westfield, Academy Hill, and the cities of Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates.

He currently serves as a Vice Chair of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission and serves in the leadership of the United States Conference of Mayors as a member of the Advisory Board.

In the Summer of 2007, Mike was named as a David Bohnett Fellow of the Gay and Lesbian Leadership Institute and attended and completed the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Executive Education Program at the Kennedy School at Harvard University.

During his two terms term as Mayor, Mike has brought together the private sector, non-profit organizations, citizens, and other governmental agencies to enhance the quality of life in Redondo Beach.

Listed below are some of the major public, private, and non-profit partnerships and projects that have benefitted the City of Redondo Beach during Mike's tenure as Mayor:

  • Veteran's Park Memorial (Redondo Beach Veterans Memorial Committee)
  • 9-11 Memorial (Leadership Redondo 2007)
  • Established a Citizen's Water Quality Task Force to address ocean water quality and water runoff issues
  • Established a Citizen's Green Task Force to look for ways to make Redondo Beach more environmentally sustainable.
  • Established an annual Redondo Beach Economic Summit to bring together key business, resident, and non-profit stakeholders in our community to enhance the economic vitality of Redondo Beach
  • Implemented a number of energy saving programs throughout all city facilities to save on energy costs.
  • Improved and enhanced a number of park facilities and street medians throughout the City
  • Increased the use of various technology initiatives to enhance services to the public
  • With the help of many citizens, the Redondo Beach Library Foundation and the Friends of the Redondo Beach Public Libraries, opened a new North Branch Library in 2010.
  • Created a citizen's Art Task Force to look for ways to enhance arts and culture in Redondo Beach
  • Created a new Public Art Commission to help evaluate various public art projects throughout the City
  • Help to establish a new North Redondo Beach Bikeway that connects South Redondo Beach with major employment centers in North Redondo Beach
  • Established a Citizen's Growth Management and Traffic Committee to address planning, land use and transportation issues in the City.
  • Worked collaboratively with our unions and employee groups to address budget shortfalls during the economic recession saving numerous city jobs and community services.
  • Helped to bring new economic engines to our community with the new South Bay South addition to the South Bay Galleria that will feature Nordstrom Rack, Sprouts, and Total Wine as new anchor stores.
  • Welcomed new anchor stores Living Spaces and Kohl's to Redondo Beach.
  • Plans are underway for a new Shade Hotel and new Harbor Patrol Facility (with grants from Supervisor Don Knabe) in King Harbor.
  • With federal and state grants, implemented a number of clean water, transportation, and public safety projects throughout the City.

With his position as a Field Deputy with LA County Supervisor Don Knabe, Mike has served the communities of Wilmington, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, San Pedro, and the cities of Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates since 2003.

Mike's experience representing Supervisor Knabe has allowed him to work collaboratively with public sector agencies such as the Port of Los Angeles, non-profit organizations, and the private sector to help bring LA County services and resources to the LA Harbor Region and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. His position with Supervisor Knabe allowed him to serve as an Ex-Officio Board Member to the Harbor Area Gang Alternatives Program (GAP), the Los Angeles Harbor College Foundation, and Joint Efforts

Prior to joining the Supervisor Knabe's staff, Mike was a Technical Support Services Manager with Infonet Services Corporation in El Segundo, CA. Prior to joining Infonet, Mike was a Senior Member of the Technical Staff with TRW in Redondo Beach, CA. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California in 1984.

Mike is married to his husband of 16 years, Christopher Kreidel. They were married at the Redondo Beach Historic "Morrell House" in 2008 and currently reside in Redondo Beach. In his spare time, Mike enjoys traveling, snow skiing, working out, and playing the piano.
