Leadership

I worked for the City of Compton for 26 years, retiring in December 2000. As General Manager of the Compton Municipal Water Department, I controlled a budget of $13 million dollars, managed a staff of 25 employees, and managed the City's rubbish contract for services to residential and commercial customers. I served as representative for the City at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and also at Central & West Basin Municipal Water Districts.

My career in public service also included work in the City departments of Public Works, Planning, Housing, Fire, and the City Manager's office. This extensive experience provided me with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the City's municipal operations, as well as federal and state regulations and guidelines. I have lived in Compton for 49 years.

Community Service

Currently I serve on the City of Compton Planning Commission, the Trustee Board of Greater Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church, volunteer for L.A. Cares Mentoring Program, and am a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Concerned Citizens of Compton and the Poinsettia Avenue Block Club. I have also served on the Women's Congressional Council for the 37th Congressional District, Board of Directors for the Compton Municipal Federal Credit Union, Basic Life Institute/Boys to Men Group Home, treasurer elect of the local NAACP Chapter, and as a member of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators.

Education

I received my Bachelors of Science Degree in Public Administration from California State University at Dominguez Hills and also attended Prairie View A&M College, Texas Southern University, Los Angeles Trade Technical College and Compton Community College.
